Proposed law change counts sexual assault as work accident
A private members bill to amend the National Health Insurance Law (5754-1994), defines sexual assault at work as a work accident. The bill was submitted to the ministerial legislative committee today.
MK Orit Zuaretz (Kadima) and MK Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) submitted the bill, which was jointly formulated with Women's International Zionist Organization (WIZO). It seeks to anchor in law two key changes: the first is to recognize sexual assault at work, or as the result of work, as a work accident; and second, to extend the statute of limitations on sexual assault to 36 months from 12 months.
Zuaretz and Hotovely state, "The objective of the amendment to the law is to protect workers and to provide a social safety net to victims, in cases where the harm caused prevents returning to a normal life as a result of the assault."
