Agricultural Employment Up in Last Decade
The number of Israelis employed in agriculture rose 36 percent, from 16,600 to 22,200, between 2000 and 2009, according to an interim report on employment in the industry released by the Agriculture Ministry on Monday. The report says the biggest increase was recorded during the first half of the decade.
According to the figures, a 4.3 percent decline was recorded in the first half of 2009. The drop was attributed to the apparent failure of programs to encourage Israelis to work in the field.
