Hotels to add 23,000 jobs in 2008
Hotels Association president Eli Gonen predicts 4 million tourists and 172,000 hotel jobs in 2011.If the government continues investing in marketing overseas, Israel will see 2.7 million tourists in 2008 says Israel Hotels Association president Eli Gonen, and predicts that hotels will add 23,000 jobs as a result.
Gonen predicts more than four million tourists will visit in 2011, and hotel employment will increase by 75,000 to 172,000 persons. He adds that tourism will generate $7.5 billion revenue.
Hotels Association acting president and marketing committee chairman Ami Hirshstein said that in order to meet these projections, it was necessary to implement the recommendations of the Ernst & Young report that the Ministry of Tourism commissioned and published in 2006. The report recommends investing $50 million a year in tourism markets over and above the ministry's current budget. Hirshstein added that the Hotels Association was calling on the government to set up a special committee to implement the recommendations.
