High-tech unemployed to switch to traditional industries
The Ministries of Industry, Trade and Labor, and Finance are considering a plan to switch high-tech employees who have lost their jobs to traditional industries. The plan seeks to kill two birds with one stone by reducing unemployment, while breathing a spirit of R&D into traditional industries. The plan also seeks to strengthen peripheral regions.
The proposed plan was unveiled today by Minister of Industry Trade and Labor Binyamin Ben-Eliezer and Chief Scientist Dr. Eli Opper.
Ben-Eliezer and Dr. Opper also revealed that a new technology center for promoting water will be set up at Sde Boker and a new center for renewable energy elsewhere in the Negev. NIS 35 million will be allocated for the 3water technologies center and NIS 57 million for the renewable energy center.
