The number of jobseekers fell to 203,100 in August, 5.5% fewer than in July, says outgoing Israel National Employment Service director general Esther Dominicini.
Despite the positive trend, data indicate that the number of jobseekers with academic degrees and those who do not need income support fell by only 0.9%. The number of jobseekers defined as “unemployed” fell by only 0.4%, albeit the number of these jobseekers has been falling steadily since January.
The number of jobseekers over 50 rose and their proportion of all jobseekers increased. The Employment Service recently admitted that older jobseekers are finding it more difficult to get new jobs, and it is preparing a program for the government to provide incentives to hire them.
