Employment rises in trade and services
The Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce reports that the number of jobs in trade and services rose by 42,100 in January-August 2006, to 1.19 million. The number of trade and services jobs rose by 3.7%, compared with the corresponding period of 2005. The Federation predicts an increase of 50,000 trade and services jobs in 2006 as a whole, to 1.2 million.
The Federation predicts 4% growth in business sector jobs altogether, 73,000 jobs, to a total of 1.74 million.
Federation president Uriel Lynn said, "Israel's economy, like other developed economies in the world, is undergoing structural change characterized by the rapid expansion of the trade and services sector. This sector's contribution to reducing the country's unemployment is therefore crucial.
