High-tech worker demand grows for eighth straight month

February 9, 2010. Globes: Tzahi Hoffman

Demand for high-tech workers continued to grow in January 2010, compared with December, for the eighth consecutive month, according to Manpower Israel Ltd. subsidiary Manpower Information Technologies Ltd. (MIT). Demand for high-tech workers was 14.8% higher in January 2010 compared with the corresponding month in 2009.
Demand for high-tech executives saw the sharpest rise in January: up 21.7% compared with December and up 87% compared with January 2009.

There was also strong demand for programmers, especially for JAVA. Recruitment was particularly strong by international companies, which are seeking engineers with at least five years experience. For the first time since the outbreak of the economic crisis, there was demand for graduates with no prior experience.

MIT CEO Erez Banovitch said, "We haven’t yet reached the high demand levels seen in October 2008, but the way there is getting closer and appears to be more certain. The rise in demand for executives is a clear sign of market recovery. New projects are underway, and they need executives to run them. High-tech CEOs are generally optimistic."
