Q3 unemployment below 8%
The unemployment rate fell to 7.8% in the third quarter from 8% in the second quarter, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today. The number of salaried Israeli employees rose to 2.78 million in the third quarter from 2.76 million in the preceding quarter, and was the same as in the third quarter of 2008.
The Labor Force Survey for the Third Quarter states that the unemployment rate in the civilian labor force (people aged 25-64) fell to 6.7% in the third quarter from 7.1% in the preceding quarter. The unemployment rate among men fell to 7.7% from 7.8%, and the unemployment rate among women fell to 8% from 8.1%.
Last week, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported that GDP grew by an annualized 2.2% in the third quarter, after rising by an annualized 1% in the second quarter and falling by 3.2% in the first quarter.
