High-Tech Companies are Hiring

August 24, 2009. Globes: Tzachi Hoffman

There are new and encouraging signs in the job market than can be added to other initial signs of a recovery by Israel's high-tech industry. Companies are thawing positions frozen for a long time because of the recession. Alljobs Ltd. reports that demand for high-tech employees was 37% higher in July 2009 than in June - 8,991 postings for jobs, compared with 6,555.
Nevertheless, demand for employees in July was still 18% less than the 10,977 postings in July 2008.

Picaro Consulting & Placement Ltd. VP recruitment Orna Dreman said, "There is a general awakening and rise in the opening of new jobs. Placement procedures are accelerating, and many candidates are reporting that they are finding jobs. Some of them are getting several offers at the same time."

Maya Outsourcing and Consulting Ltd. CEO Dubi Czyzyk also says that positions frozen during the crisis are now thawing. Companies are now seriously considering hiring people for positions that were unmanned until now. He said that it's possible to see this trend in several industries and sectors, including the public sector. "After the budget was passed, the public sector again began to hire computer staff. High-tech companies are also beginning to show an interest in employees in various fields."

Dreman adds, "Since many companies were not hiring at all, the workload on their employees is massive." The latest most common help-wanted ads are for flash programmers, Mobile J2ME programmers, and net team leaders.

Dreman concluded, "Previously, the job climate was frozen, but the mood has changed. The panic that prevailed at companies during the crisis has passed. There is considerable optimism now, and that's why companies are again hiring to meet their needs.
