Minimum wage rises
June 29, 2008. GlobesMinister of Industry, Trade and Labor Eli Yishai has signed a directive for the increase in the minimum wage, which will rise to NIS 3,850 a month from July 1.
Trade Industry Labor relations division head Shlomo Yitzhaki stressed that the update was in line with the Minimum Wage Law (5747-1987). The new rates of pay are as follows:
- The minimum rate per hour will be NIS 20.70. The minimum rate per day will be NIS 154 over a six day week, and NIS 177.70 over a five-day week, provided that the salary is not less than the basis hourly rate.
- The minimum rate of pay for young people under 16 will be 70% of the minimum wage - NIS 2,695.13 a month, or NIS 15.58 an hour.
- The rate of pay for youngsters aged 16-17 will be 75% of the minimum wage - NIS 2,887.63 a month or NIS 16.70 an hour, going up to NIS 3,195.65 a month, 83% of the minimum wage for youth aged 17-18.
